Networking Breakfast
New to our annual conference this year, CAPHC would like to invite our delegates to choose and participate in a breakfast symposium with CAPHC’s partners and fellow collaborators. The following sessions are being offered to our delegates.
Breakfast Session #1: Pediatric National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (NSQIP) - An Exciting Journey to a NSQIP Collaborative within the Province of British Columbia
Pediatric NSQIP is the first multi-specialty outcomes-based program to measure the quality of children's surgical care. Pediatric NSQIP enables participating hospitals to collect highly reliable clinical data including 30-day surgical outcomes. Pediatric NSQIP has been designed to collect approximately 121 data points that are relevant to measuring surgical outcomes in pediatric patients under 18 years of age. Pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative data are collected on patients undergoing surgical procedures. Additional data points have also been included for neonates up to 30-days old.
BC Children’s Hospital is the first Pediatric Hospital in Canada to enroll in Pediatric NSQIP. Please join us and learn about this powerful pediatric surgical quality improvement program!

Breafast Session #3 - Wairever Healthcare Solution Clinical Content Management - How can we ensure that our clinical information systems will lead to measurably better care
Speaker : Dr. Tom Rosenal. Sesssion Description to follow
Health Centres everywhere are engaged in many efforts to improve and measure care. Clinical Information Systems and Electronic Health Records offer one way to help solve some of these thorny challenges at the point of contact with patients and their families. But these systems must be driven and sustained by expert local clinicians if they are to become useful tools. What do clinicians need to know and to do to successfully guide such system implementations? Tom Rosenal, the physician lead for a system that is heavily and effectively used by 2000 physicians will describe the dangers and benefits of one major contributor to quality care, order sets. We hope you will enjoy asking him tough questions.

In this keynote presentation, Dr. Evans will be explaining why stories trump data, how individuals can trump organizations, and how you can redesign your healthcare. He will go from “big picture Health 2.0” to “small picture examples of innovation” from his Health Design Lab and other best practices. Participants will not only get up to speed on how patients are solving health problems, but also will be inspired to think about how they can engage the patients they care for.
Dr Evans will wrap up his key note presentation by engaging our delegates in an open microphone Q & A that will inspire us all to reflect upon our respective responsibilities and organizations and the populations that we serve.
